After removing the panel and old sealant (which was gooped on), Spectra Jet mechanics scrupulously clean the surface prior to application of sealant.  The removed panel is coated with parting compound so that the sealant will not adhere to the panel.  After waxing the coated panel it is installed with washers to create a 'ledge' of sealant.  This will compress when the washers are removed and the panel installed, creating a leak preventing seal.  .

PLATES /  SKIN - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1.DESCRIPTION

A.  The wing structure is covered with a milled aluminum skin.  The lower wing skin

incorporates access panels which provide access to the fuel vent plumbing, fuel tanks, flight controls and electrical connections.

B.  Whenever a wing fuel or tip tank access cover is removed, special installation

procedures are required to provide Lightning Strike Protection.
