Proper sealing of fuel panels is a matter of Safety

Learjet maintenance manuals specify how mechanics and technicians seal wing fuel panels (Click here for more).  Surprisingly, we've encountered numerous 'gooped panels' in what we can only guess is a time saving step.

Gooping panels in place may save time and effort, however, airframe damage may result and a key safety element is omitted alltogether.  Each panel that has been installed incorrrectly must be pried off, cleaned and then resealed.  Panels can become warped, bent and twisted all in an effort to save time.  We have even seen panels cracked by improper installations.

A potential safety hazard exists whenever improper sealing occurs.  Why?  The method stated in Learjet's manual makes not only a reusable seal, but also promotes Lightning Strike Protection.

Check out some of our pictures, then check with your maintenance provider.  If they say "we do not seal fuel panels by the book", Lightning Strike Protection may be in question.

Or better yet, come see Spectra Jet.  We do it right the first time, without your having to ask.

Don't let someone tell you this system doesn't  work, if you follow the directions in the manual, it works perfectly.

Please contact us if you have any questions about fuel panel sealing, we would be glad to help you out.
